MVNU eliminates testing obstacles to fall enrollment

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University is making standardized test scores optional for incoming undergraduate students for the 2020 and 2021 academic years.

The change in requirements is a direct response to the struggles faced by high school students as standardized testing centers were canceled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Admissions decisions will be made based on a holistic case review, including a thorough review of the college prep curriculum, academic rigor of the curriculum and cumulative Grade Point Average.

Students who have already tested, are encouraged to include test scores as they may be used to determine course placement.

MVNU joins universities across the country in the effort to be more flexible in the admissions process. Virtual visits, social media mini-tours, and extended opportunities for one-on-one sessions with counselors, professors and financial aid professionals are part of MVNU’s innovations in remote recruitment.

“In this time of uncertainty our focus is on providing a smooth and accessible process for our students’ transition to college and removing this requirement will allow our students to move through the admission process without the stress of standardized testing,” said Dalonzo.
